Gang Liu

Dr. Gang Liu has engaged in solar-driven photocatalysts for 15 years and mainly focuses on the designing and construction of high-performance photocatalysts for solar fuels by inducing water splitting. Currently, he is the deputy director of Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and is also leading the Group for Advanced Energy Conversion Materials and Devices in Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, IMR, CAS. He has been working in IMR since he got his PhD degree from CAS in 2009.

Dr. Gang Liu obtained a series of wide-spectrum absorption photocatalysts, particularly the first red TiO2 photocatalyst by controlling a new parameter identified by him, namely the spatial distribution of electronic structure modifiers. He conducted the significant studies of the faceted metal oxide photocatalysts and discovered the crystal facet dependent band edge, electronic conductivity, and also developed some new important strategies of promoting the separation of photogenerated charge carriers including constructing single crystalline porous structure, direct Z-scheme & core-shell engineering. All these achievements promoted the rational development of solar-driven photocatalysts.

Dr. Gang Liu holds 14 patents and has published more than 140 papers with the citations of over 18,000 by others and H factor = 55. Due to his great contribution to photocatalysis research field, he has won over ten prestigious awards. He is in the 2018 list of highly cited researchers (Chemistry, Clarivate Analytics). He is the NSFC Distinguished Young Scholar, "The Cheung Kong Scholars Programme" for Young Scholars, the recipient of China Youth Science and Technology Award and the awardee of Royal society-Newton Advanced Fellowship.
