Dr. Lianmeng Zhang is now a chair professor of Materials Science in Wuhan University of Technology, China and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). He graduated from Tohoku University, Japan, and got the Ph.D. degree in Materials Science in 1997. He serves actively in many academic societies and organizations, including vice-president of the Chinese Ceramic Society, member of the Materials Discipline Evaluation Group of the Academic Degree Committee (the State Council), member of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission (the Ministry of Education), and member of the International Advisory Committee of Functionally Graded Materials, etc.
Prof. Zhang is a leading expert in the field of advanced composite materials, especially Functionally Graded Materials (FGMs), including their innovational design, process technology and engineering applications. Many multi-functional FGMs, such as thermal stress relaxation, quasi-isentropic compression, energy transfer and damping control as well as integrated thermal protection/insulation, have been successfully developed and widely used.
Prof. Zhang has authored over 350 peer-reviewed journal papers, 6 books, and about 60 authorized patents. He has received many awards and reputation for his pioneering research works, such as National Award for Technological Invention (Second Prize, 2011), National Award for Science and Technology Progress (Second Prize, 2013), Provincial Science and Technology Awards (First Prize, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018), and so on.
