Yicheng Wu

Dr. Yicheng Wu has been engaged in the area of nonlinear optical materials for more than 30 years, involving the searches of novel nonlinear optical crystals, crystal growth, characterization, structure-properties relation, and etc. With the collaboration of other scientists, Dr. Wu discovered a series of new nonlinear optical crystals such as LiB3O5(LBO), CsB3O5(CBO) and La2CaB10O19(LCB). The LBO crystal and is believed to be the key nonlinear optical crystal for the second harmonic generation and third harmonic generation of a high intensity Nd:YAG (at 1064nm) laser, and was selected as one of the 10 best materials for lasers in 1989 by the journal “Laser Focus World”. Thus, The LBO crystal has been widely used for commercial solid-state laser applications, such as ophthalmology, materials processing, marking, optical data storage and semiconductor processing. For the discovery and extensively commercial application, the project “New Nonlinear Optical Crystal LiB3O5” won the first prize of the National Award of Invention in 1991. Furthermore, Dr. Wu won the “Outstanding Achievement Award” from Asian Association for Crystal Growth and Technology in 2017. Due to his great contribution to functional crystals, he was elected as the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2005. Besides, Dr. Wu holds over 20 patents and has published more than 230 papers with citation more than 5000 by others and H factor =32.
