Prof. Liping Wang is now the director of Key Laboratory of Marine Materials and Related Technologies, in Chinese Academy of Sciences, and group leader of advanced marine materials and environmental behaviors. He devoted in the research of surface engineering with designed functions, particularly for anti-corrosion and anti-wear purpose. A new design method of multi-scale strengthening and toughening for structural regulation was established by him. This novel discovery and related physics understanding of tribological behavior laid the strong foundation for the design and fabrication of low-friction films used in Chinese engine industry and related high-tech application including aerospace and marine.
From 2006 to 2015, Dr. Liping Wang led a research group in the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, which focused on the low-friction films with good balance of high hardness and toughness. He solved the problem of strong coupling acceleration failure of lubricating film in special atmosphere, high load high temperature and high vacuum. A series of new films combined with high toughness, high strength and excellent lubrication were invented and eventually successfully applied to aerospace, aviation, reactor and other sophisticated mechanical systems. He had directed and helped the completion of thesis research of 13 Ph.D. and 10 Master students. During his academic career period, he received Ten-Thousand Talents Program, Excellent Training Program for Youth Scientists from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Talented Youth Program from the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Dr. Wang published 135 SCI papers with 2500 total citations in materials surface and interfaces area, and also hold over 30 Chinese patents in low-frictions films and anti-corrosion coatings, in which 10 patents has been successfully transferred to engine and bearing industry. His research achievement won the 2016 National Technology Invention Award (Rank 1) for his outstanding research work low friction films, working collaboratively with number of high-tech companies.
