Dr. Jian Xu’s research interests are focused on polymer physics and new materials. He was an associate professor in the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) in 1996. He has been a professor ICCAS since 1999, focused on the research of bio-inspired surface with superhydrophobicity/superhydrophilicity, smart gel and gelation, functional aerogel, recyclable and self-repaired polymers materials, PAN carbon fiber and UHMWPE fibers etc. He is also Pluralistic Professor of Peking University and Wuhan University.
He had supervised 31 Ph.D. students and 17 Post-doctors. He gives the course of Advanced Functional Materials in CAS University. He was awarded by "Excellent Young Foundation" from National Natural Science Foundation of China and "CAS Hundred Scientists". He received 5 National/Ministry-class Awards.
Dr. Xu holds over 90 patents, published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers, 7 books and 6 chapters.
Dr. Xu is the vice-president of Composites Material Society of China, adviser of National Council for Strategic Emerging Industries, international Chair of ISO/TC202, the formal vice-president of China Material Research Society, chief scientists of 863 and 973 National Projects.
