Feng Wu

Prof. Feng Wu founded the first advanced battery incubator in China. Several start-up battery and related material companies were started there and grew into multi-million dollar companies. Prof. Wu has made great contributions in the fields of advanced materials of high performance lithium ion batteries, including the design and development of high-strength self-protectedmembranes, new electrolytes with flame retardation,Safe electrode materials. The application and expansion of these invention achievements have brought about remarkable economic. Some of the world top Li-ion battery manufactures, such as CATL and LISHEN battery companies, have all benefited from the technologies develop by Wu’s group.

He is the chief professor in the field of Energy and Environmental Materials of Beijing Institute of Technology in China. As a visiting scientist, he also worked at Argonne National Lab in 2014. he has developed a number of new electrochemical energy storage systems, based on multi-electron and/or multi-ion reactions. These new systems are considered as great breakthrough for improving the energy density at cell level as high as 430Wh/Kg. Ascommented by Dr. Ralph J. Brodd , the former chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Battery materials Association, “Prof. Feng Wu’s forward thinking on the multi-electron reactions is very important on the development of new electrode materials with high capacity”. Dr. Brodd believes that this new idea will become a guiding principle in the design of the new high energy density battery systems.

Prof. Wu has directed and helped the completion of thesis research of 56 Ph.D. and 48 Master students. He has received numerous national awards in China and international awards and honorary positions, including the National Award of Technology Invention in China, International Battery materials Association Research Award in 2012, International Automobile Lithium Battery Association Research Award in 2013, and the Electrochemical Society (ECS) 2014 Battery Division Technology Award. He was elected as the academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and he received the honored degree of Doctor of Science in University of Massachusetts Boston. He has published over 380 SCI papers including 15 high impact papers and holds over 80 patents in battery field. He was the key person to initiate and organize “the China-US Electric Vehicles and Battery Technology Workshop”. This workshop has successfully held 11 times in China and US alternatively and Prof. has served as co-Chairman in China side for all of them.
