Lijian Rong is a Professor of material science at the Division of Materials for Special Environment, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained his Bachelor Degree in Metal Materials and Heat Treatment from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in 1989, and his MSc and PhD in same majority from Institute of Metal Research, CAS, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. Upon graduation, he started a research career at Institute of Metal Research, where he has been working for 20 years until now, rising through the ranks of Research Assistant, Associate Professor (1996) and Professor (1998). From 1999, he is Director for Division of Materials for Special Environment.
Prof. Rong is a committee member of Chinese Materials Society, a committee member of nuclear materials branch of Chinese Nuclear Society and a member of the editorial boards of Acta Metallugica Sinica. From 2012, he is appointed as technical committee member of Chinese Enterprise Innovation Union on High Speed Train.
Prof. Rong has published more than 150 papers with a total of over 1,000 citations and got 32 Chinese patents. He has received series prestigious awards including Science and Technology Progress Awards from CAS (2001) and Science and Industry Bureau (2007), candidate for the National Talents Project (2009), the Special Allowance of the State Council (2001) and Innovation Expert in Liaoning Province (2010). His current research interests include the development of hydrogen-resistant alloys, structure steels with high performance, shape memory alloys and their applications.
