Jun Sun is the Cheung Kong Chair Professor of School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). He received his Ph.D degree in MSE of XJTU in 1989. After more than two years research in Queen’s University as an International Research Fellow of NSERC Canada he joined into the faculty of MSE of XJTU, as a full professor in 1995. He has been the director of State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials since 2002 and the head of MSE School since 2005.
Jun is vice president of Materials division, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society; the standing member of C-MRS. He had also been a member of International Advisory Board of 11st and 13rd International Congress on Fracture. He was awarded the National Outstanding Young Investigator Grant of China in 1999, and Distinguished Visiting Fellowship of UK Royal Academy of Engineering in 2013.
He has published over 170 research articles in international journals with a total of over 5,800 citations. He has been invited to present 8 keynote and plenary talks at some prestigious international conferences. His research interests include strengthening and toughening of materials, currently focusing on the mechanical behavior of materials at small length scale.
