Xiaosu Yi

Xiaosu Yi is the AVIC (Aviation Industry of China) Fellow (Chief Technical Specialist) in composites materials. He obtained his Dipl.-Ing. (BSc) and Dr.-Ing. (PhD) in 1982 and 1986, respectively, both in Material Engineering in Paderborn University, Germany. In 1988 he became a full professor of Polymer Materials and Engineering at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Since 1998, he has been the director of Science & Technology Committee of Beijing Institute of Aeronautical materials (BIAM), AVIC, and the director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Structural Carbon Composites.

He is a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE) and received the SAMPE Fellow Award in 2010. He has been an executive council member of both the International Conference of Composite Materials (ICCM) and Asia-Australian Conference of Composite Materials (ACCM). He is also the chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Composite Materials (Acta Materiae Compositae Sinica), editorial board member of National Science Review (China), Science China - Technological Sciences (Scientia Sinica Technologica) and Chinese Journal of Material Research etc.

He has published about 200 papers in refereed journals, cited over 2000 times. He published also 8 scientific and technological monographs in Germany and China and about 65 international and national invention patents were granted to him. He has presented over 20 plenary, keynote or invited talks at international meetings and conferences. He is the recipient of the Award for Applied Science of Zhou Guang Zhao Foundation and many-times National and Ministerial Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress of China. His current research interests include structural composites, multi-functional composites, design and fabrication methodology, modeling, characterization, and application of composite materials for aerospace.
