Huiming Cheng is the Director and Professor of the Advanced Carbon Division, Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS). He obtained his BSc in Inorganic Non-metallic Materials from Hu-Nan University in 1984 and PhD in Metallic Materials and Heat Treatment from IMR CAS in 1992. He was a guest researcher at AIST-Kyushu Center, Japan, from 1990 to 1992 and a formal research associate at Nagasaki University, Japan, from 1992 to 1993. In 1993 he became an associate professor and then in 1994 a professor at IMR CAS. He was a senior visiting scholar at Dept. of Physics, MIT, USA from 1997 to 1998.
He has been an editor of Carbon and editor-in-chief of New Carbon Materials, and a member of the editorial boards of Chinese Science Bulletin, Science China, National Science Review, Nano, Material Research Letters, Graphene, Functional Materials, etc.
Prof. Cheng has published more than 400 papers in refereed journals with an H-index of 61 and >16000 citations. He has obtained many patents and presented over 65 plenary, keynote or invited talks at international symposia and conferences. He is the recipient of the National Natural Science Award (2nd class), the Pettinos Award (American Carbon Society), and the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation.
His current research interests include synthesis and applications of carbon nanotubes and graphene; design and synthesis of nanostructured materials for energy storage; exploration of photocatalytic materials for water-splitting; fabrication and applications of high-performance bulk carbon materials.
