Dr. S. Arumugam possesses 25 years of teaching and research experience with exemplary credentials in eminent institutions. The administrative responsibilities have taken up include positions such as i) Director, Centre for High Pressure Research (6 Months) ii) Director, Distance Education, BDU (01 year) iii) Head of the Department Physics, BDU (~3 Months) iv) Director(i/c), Central Instrumentation Facility, BDU (02 Years 06 Months), v) Coordinator, Centre for High Pressure Research (10 Years and 6 months) and v) Coordinator, UGC XII plan ENCORE, BDU (3 years 6 Months). Dr. S. A have received some of the prestigious awards are: Tamil Nadu Scientist Award (2014), Young Scientist fellowship Award (1997), MRSI Medal Award (2018), Best Poster Award (2018: Indian Academy of Science), Prof. M. A. Ittyachen Award and Proficiency Prize (1986).

Dr. S. Arumugam has been serving as the Founder-Chairman and Secretary of MRSI-Trichy Chapter since 2017. ) and life member of eight national scientific and technical societies Dr.S.A had successfully completed 18 major research projects from various funding agencies including six international projects, currently have four projects (02 International), organized 11 National/International Conferences, and visited 71 laboratories in 15 countries for academic and research purposes. Dr. S. A had published 141 (International) and 09 (National) articles including 05 publications in Nature-Scientific Report with a total h-index of 20. He had established the Centre for High Pressure research with world class facilities and it is a unique Centre in India. Dr.S.A had developed indigenous devices: i) Clamp type Micro Uniaxial Pressure cell for M(T) and ρ(T):suits for PPMS-VSM, ii) Modified uniaxial P device: suits for CCR-VTI for ρ(T) iii) A uniaxial P device for ac-susceptibility: suits for CCR (20K-300K), iv) A SQUID vibrating coil magnetometer high sensitive magnetic measurements, V)Hybrid hydrostatic piston-cylinder P cell (4 GPa-Patent) for ρ(T), vi) Bridgman Anvil P cell (8GPa) for ρ(T) and vii) Diamond Anvil Cell (20 GPa) for ρ(T) under optimization.

Dr.S.A investigated various strongly correlated materials such as high temperature, Fe-based, BiS2 based, 2D, Fe, Co, V and Cr intercalated NbSe2 and non-centro symmetric superconductors, manganites, and Heusler alloys under extreme conditions of high pressure, low temperature and high magnetic field, and these results helps in understanding of these materials very much. Further, Investigation of static stripe ordered Nd doped La2-xSrxCuO4 system under hydrostatic and uniaxial pressure gives very clear understanding of competition between static stripes and superconducting phases. These results have a good impact in worldwide and the paper has been referred by Nobel Laureate Laughlin RB and others. Dr. S. A recently found large negative magneto capacitance >90% in 1T magnetic field with high Specific capacitance value (751 F/g at 1A/g), High energy (16.69Wh/kg), power density (231.06 W/kg) and 93% of capacitance retention in NiF2 sample (Nature: Scientific Report 2019). Interesting results were reported at ambient and high pressure on enhancement of Jc, vortex dynamics and pinning mechanism for Fe, V and Cr intercalated NbSe2 single crystals and it useful for practical applications.
