Professor Hua Chun Zeng obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Xiamen University in 1982, and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from University of British Columbia in 1989 (with Professor Keith A. R. Mitchell). Following postdoctoral work at University of Toronto (with Professor John C. Polanyi, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry 1986), he joined the faculty at National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1991. Over the past two decades, he has been working on synthetic architecture of nanomaterials, in particular, with compositional and structural complexity. Prof Zeng’s research interests are, at present, focused on the exploratory design and synthesis of inorganic nanostructures, with an emphasis on catalytic applications. Professor Zeng has published 230 papers in prominent/prime international journals with a total citation number over 21600, and an h-index of 73. Currently, he is serving as editor or editorial advisory board member for several international refereed journals such as Current Opinion in Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) and Particle and Particle Systems Characterization (Wiley-VCH) etc. Apart from his research at NUS, Professor Zeng has also been working on a number of international collaborative projects. During 2008-2011, Professor Zeng won Global Research Partnership Award and served as special academic partner at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia. In 2012, he was also invited to serve as an academic partner for Green Asia Program (2012-2017, Kyushu University), Ministry of Education, Japan. Starting in 2013, Professor Zeng was appointed as NUS Lead Principal Investigator to work with Cambridge University, United Kingdom, in a joint 5+5 year research program of carbon reduction and energy efficiency. Among his recent awards/honors, Professor Zeng was listed among Top 100 Chemists 2000-2010 (ranked 49th) by Thomson Reuters & Times Higher Education in support of the International Year of Chemistry 2011 proclaimed by UNESCO and IUPAC. In the same year, he also received the Faculty Research Award, Faculty of Engineering, NUS. In 2014, Prof Zeng was selected as Highly Cited Researchers (2002-2012) and included in the list of The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds by ISI Thomson Reuters on the basis of research impact, and more recently in 2016, he was also listed among Most Cited Researchers by Shanghai Ranking (Elsevier) in Materials Science and Engineering. In 2017, Prof Zeng received Outstanding Researcher Award by AICHE (Singapore).
