Chung-Hsin Lu is the Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University (NTU) as well as the Honorary Chair Professor at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST). He received his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1983 and his PhD degree in Inorganic Materials from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1991. After graduation, he moved from Japan to USA to work as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Materials Science at U. C. Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley Lab from 1991 to 1992. He was recruited as an associate professor by the Department of Chemical Engineering at National Taiwan University in 1992 and later became a full professor in 1997. In 2009, he was honored with the Distinguished Professor Award by National Taiwan University. Prof. Lu particularly specializes in the research of energy materials and nanomaterials, and his research achievement has received worldwide attention in the related fields. His fields of investigation include CIGS solar cells, white LED phosphors, nanomaterials technology, lithium-ion secondary batteries, and semiconductor thin-film technology. Prof. Lu was the group leader for National Energy Project in the investigation of CIGS solar cells from 2009 to 2016, and he has helped to successfully establish the one and only comprehensive CIGS research team at National Taiwan University. Prof. Lu also led the team aiming for the research of lithium-ion batteries for Higher Education Sprout Project. In light of his academic achievement, he was also invited to become a member of Advisory Board for the international journal of Materials Chemistry and Physics.
Prof. Lu has published 449 research papers (268 academic journal papers and 181 conference papers) and has obtained 23 invention patents worldwide. His published papers have been cited for more than 5200 times, with over 2700 times of citation focusing on nanomaterials. He was twice elected the Research Fellow by Ministry of Science and Technology, and has been thrice honored by National Science Council with the Outstanding Research Award and Outstanding Scholar Award. He was also granted the Outstanding Engineering Professor Award by Chinese Institute of Engineers. In addition, Prof. Lu has received all four major awards from Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers, including Chemical Engineering Technology Award, Academic Encouragement Award, Professor Tsai- Tech Lai Award, and Kai-Ying Jin Award. As for the industrial research, he was granted the Outstanding Engineering and Technical Member Award by Taiching Foundation of Science and Technology, and he was honored by Ministry of Economic Affairs with the ninth Outstanding Nanotechnology Industry Award. In 2018, Prof. Lu became Honorary Chair Professor at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST).
